Santa Ana police officers shot and killed a woman following a confrontation early Sunday.
The confrontation occurred at about 8 a.m. between the woman and two patrol officers in an alley on the 800 block of S. Townsend St., said Santa Ana Police Cmdr. Eric Paulson.
The woman was transported to a local hospital where she was declared dead shortly before 9 a.m., Paulson said. A handgun was recovered at the scene but it was not clear if the woman had fired the gun, and no officers were wounded in the incident, he added.
The incident took place just two blocks from the Saturday night shooting of a 7-year-old boy who was returning home with his father. There is no reason to believe the shootings are related, Paulson said.
