Santa Monica students hoping for Obama visit

High school and college students who have been asking President Obama to visit their campuses during his brief Los Angeles stay Friday will probably be disappointed.
The president is scheduled to land at LAX at 10:35 a.m. Friday and leave at 2:05 p.m., meaning he’ll probably miss both the Phi Theta Kappa honors society ceremony at Santa Monica College, which begins at 2 p.m., and the Santa Monica High School graduation, which starts at 5:30 p.m.
Santa Monica College student Elias Saigali sent the president an invitation to the ceremony several months ago when he heard that Obama would be in the area, and the high school posted a YouTube video several days ago asking the president to attend.
Saigali, for one, is still holding out hope that Obama will find a way to make a quick visit to his college.
“I’m hoping we still have a shot,” he said.
