2 killed, 1 wounded in shooting at San Francisco shopping center
Two women were fatally shot and a man wounded Friday in a possible botched robbery in a San Francisco shopping center, authorities said.
Police officers responding to the shooting encountered the suspect with blood on his clothing outside the crowded San Francisco Giftcenter & Jewelrymart in the South of Market neighborhood, police Chief Greg Suhr told CBS San Francisco.
Police said the man fired on the officers as he backed into a restaurant. When he ran out of ammunition, Suhr said, he surrendered.
Officers held their fire because the sidewalks were crowded with shoppers and residents.
Police said that a sweep of the shopping center and surveillance camera footage indicated there were no other suspects.
The bodies of two women were found in the lobby of the center.
