A 59-year-old Apple Valley woman apparently buried her husband in her backyard because she was too poor to “give him a proper burial,” authorities said Wednesday.
The body of the man, who was 63 when he died several weeks ago, was found by deputies in a shallow grave at the home in the 1600 block of Navajo Road, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said.
The agency said there was no sign of trauma to the body.
“The distraught female said the man died at home and she did not have the resources to give him a proper burial,” sheriff’s officials said in a statement.
Deputies responded to the home Wednesday afternoon to conduct a “welfare check” on the man. No other details were immediately available.
