A slow-moving wet system will bring cooler temperatures and possibly thunderstorms to Southern California through the weekend.

Showers could begin as early as Thursday evening as the low pressure system creeps over the coast, valleys and foothills of Ventura and Los Angeles counties, according to meteorologist Andrew Rorke with the National Weather Service in Oxnard. Breezy conditions are expected across the Antelope Valley and San Luis Obispo County.

“Southern California’s weather will be dominated by a cutoff low over the next four days,†he said.

Rainfall amounts will be low, but snow levels could drop to 6,500 feet as the storm moves from Point Conception to Santa Barbara County and through Los Angeles County.

Forecasters said it’s looking like Friday will be mostly cloudy with some rain, but there’s a chance the rainfall could be stronger than expected.

By Sunday, the system will have moved to the east, with a lingering threat of showers in the Los Angeles County mountains.

Warm temperature will return next week.

Temperatures were 3 to 5 degrees above normal for most of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, San Luis Obispo and Ventura counties in April, according to the weather service. Precipitation was also “well below normal for the most part,†the weather service said.
