Another hearing, another hospitalization for ‘Suge’ Knight
Marion “Suge†Knight was rushed to the hospital Thursday morning before his scheduled court hearing after suffering from stomach-related medical issues, his attorney said.
Knight was scheduled to appear in court this morning to answer to a robbery charge stemming from his run-in with an independent celebrity photographer. The former rap music mogul also is facing murder and attempted murder charges in an alleged hit-and-run in Compton on Jan. 29.
But when Knight arrived to the courthouse, he was taken away by ambulance, his attorney David Kenner said.
Knight was admitted into the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center’s jail ward, where he is being evaluated and receiving medical treatment, said Nicole Nishida, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Kenner said he was later informed by hospital personnel that Knight had suffered a “stomach-related medical issue.â€
Knight’s attorney insists the latest hospital emergency “is not a panic attack†and is likely related to injuries stemming from being shot six times.
The co-founder of Death Row Records had complained of pain during a meeting with attorneys Wednesday, Kenner said.
Kenner says he hopes his client recovers because they have a lot of work ahead of them.
Earlier this month, Knight was taken to a hospital after a hearing in which he was charged with running over two men with his car at Tam’s Burgers in Compton. Terry Carter, 55, died, and Cle “Bone†Sloan, 51 was injured in the incident.
Knight was treated for an unspecified medical emergency and later released into police custody.
At the time, Kenner told reporters that Knight’s health problems were serious.
“Blood clots are always potentially life threatening,†he said. “I understand that he passed out and was having some serious bleeding issues.â€
Thursday’s hearing was expected to address the robbery charge.
Los Angeles County prosecutors say Knight and comedian Katt Williams stole a camera from an independent celebrity photographer on Sept. 5.
