Man shot dead on Westlake sidewalk

Los Angeles police detectives are investigating the fatal shooting of a man Sunday afternoon in Westlake.
Officers responded to a call of shots fired at 1:45 p.m. and found the victim on the sidewalk near Beverly Boulevard and Benton Way, LAPD Sgt. Dave Rich said.
The man, who was in his mid-20s, died at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
Investigators were still at the scene Sunday evening.
The victim’s name has not been released.
According to the Homicide Report, The Times’ online database, there have been six other slayings within a one-mile radius of Sunday’s shooting in the last 12 months.
