Rapper’s latest song laments Bay Area’s soaring rents

A California rapper is using his frustration with the Bay Area housing market as inspiration for a new song and video.

KPIX-TV reports that the Bay Area tech boom has caused housing markets in San Francisco, Oakland and San Jose to skyrocket in recent years.

Rapper Zumbi, also known as Steven Gaines of the hip-hop group Zion I, says the gentrification priced his family out of Oakland. He put his story to music in the song “Tech $.†He raps in the song that, “all I want to do is make sense/Love my city/But the gentries got it real tense.â€

Gaines says he wrote the song out of frustration and as an emotional reaction to his experiences.
