Gunman surrenders after hours-long standoff in Rancho Palos Verdes
An hours-long standoff between an armed man and a SWAT team in Rancho Palos Verdes ended Monday afternoon when the gunman surrendered to Los Angles County sheriff’s deputies.
The incident began about 5:30 a.m., when deputies were dispatched to a reported family disturbance in the 6500 block of Seacove Drive, according to Deputy Guillermina Saldana.
When officers arrived, they were met by a man with a gun, she said.
After that initial encounter, the man set himself up in a neighbor’s backyard, where the standoff continued for several hours and neighbors were evacuated, officials said.
The man, identified as 36-year-old Paul Carriere, eventually surrendered. He was jailed on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm and is being held on $35,000 bail.
There were no reported injuries.
