Powerball tickets worth $1.4 million each sold in El Segundo, Modesto
A Chevron gas station in Milpitas sold the winning $425-million Powerball ticket -- the second recent big lottery win in the Bay Area.
No one in Los Angeles won the big Powerball prize, but a player who bought a ticket in El Segundo matched five of six numbers and will walk away with $1.4 million, officials said.
California Lottery officials announced late Wednesday that the sole jackpot-winning Powerball ticket was sold at a Chevron gas station in Milpitas, Calif.
The owner of that ticket will take home about $425.3 million, California Lottery spokesman Alex Traverso said. The owner of the gas station will also receive a $1-million prize.
Two tickets purchased in California matched five of the six winning numbers, and the two winners will split a $2.8-million prize, officials said.
The tickets were sold in Modesto and El Segundo, and the retailers who sold them will receive an estimated $7,000 bonus for selling a ticket with a prize over $1 million, he said.

The Powerball jackpot on Wednesday was the sixth-largest in U.S. lottery history, and the odds of winning it were about 1 in 175 million, officials said.
As of Thursday morning, Traverso said the winner of the $425.3-million jackpot had not come forward.
