Police and SWAT officers were engaged in a standoff Thursday with someone inside a West Covina home after callers reported hearing gunshots from within, officials said.
West Covina police responded to the calls about 2:50 a.m. from residents who reported hearing “random” shots coming from a home in the 1900 block of East Cortez Street, Lt. Jerry Pearman told KTLA-TV.
The shots were directed from one home to another, with one round hitting its target, Pearman said.
An unidentified person remained inside the home from where gunshots had been fired as police and SWAT officers continued to try to remove the individual from the home, Pearman said.
