Two members of the violent street gang MS-13 have been deported from Los Angeles to their native El Salvador to face charges of aggravated homicide, according to U.S. immigration officials.

The fugitives, Gerson Segovia Alvarado and Nilson Lozano Hernandez, were flown to San Salvador and Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers handed them over to authorities there Wednesday, officials said.

Alvardo is wanted in the 2013 murder of a man beaten to death with a baseball bat. Hernandez is accused in a separate homicide, the 2008 shooting of a rival gang member.

The deportations were part of an ICE program, the Security Alliance for Fugitive Enforcement, that has returned more than 550 fugitives to El Salvador in the last three years.
