Body of missing diver recovered in waters off Catalina Island
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department divers on Thursday found the body of a man who went missing earlier this week during a scuba diving trip off Santa Catalina Island, officials said.
The department’s Special Enforcement Bureau had been looking for the man since he cried for help while diving Monday night in Emerald Bay. Moments later he went underwater and didn’t resurface, according to KCBS-TV.
The man’s body was found Thursday morning about 100 feet under water, the sheriff’s department said in a tweet.
According to KCBS, the man went missing during a chartered night dive in the bay. The Coast Guard initially helped in the search but was called off once the search turned into a recovery operation, officials said.
The cause of the man’s death has not been determined. His name has not been released.
