Manhattan Beach police are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a woman on the beach early Sunday while forcing her male companion to lie face down in the sand.
The attack occurred on the beach about 12:15 a.m. Sunday, police said.
The two victims, both in their 40s, were sitting on the sand when the man approached and simulated the use of a handgun before forcing the man to the ground and assaulting the woman, police said. Afterward, the suspect fled southbound on foot.
Police said the attacker also took property belonging to the victims, but did not specify what kind of items were taken. A search of the area has so far failed to turn up the man.
Manhattan Beach detectives asked anyone with information about the assault to call them at (310) 802-5140.
