An unidentified man was struck and killed by a Metrolink train Monday evening in Simi Valley, according to police and Metrolink officials.

Police received a call about 5:15 p.m. that a pedestrian had been hit by a train traveling parallel to Cochran Street near the Madera Road overpass. An adult man was found dead at the scene.

Metrolink spokesman Scott Johnson said the area where the man was struck was not a pedestrian crossing, nor was it near one. The 118 train was traveling between the Moorpark and Simi Valley stations when the accident occurred. None of the 19 passengers on board reported any injuries, Johnson said.

Investigators have ruled out criminal activity, such as someone pushing the man onto the tracks, but have not determined whether the death was a suicide or an accident, according to a Simi Valley police official.

Johnson said three trains were delayed before authorities cleared the tracks at 8:15 p.m.

No further details were immediately available. The case has been referred to the Ventura County medical examiner, whose office could not be reached late Monday evening for comment.
