Man slain, another wounded in shooting in southeast L.A. County

One man was slain and another wounded in a shooting in an incorporated neighborhood in southeast Los Angeles County, authorities said late Thursday.
The violence was reported shortly before 7 p.m. in the 9000 block of South Budlong Avenue, in an area adjacent to Gardena.
Deputies responded to a report of shots fired and found two wounded victims, said Sgt. Robert Chism of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
One man was grazed, but the other was struck multiple times. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead, Chism said at the scene.
The names and ages of the victims were not immediately available.
Since January 2007, at least 125 homicides have been reported within mile of the the shooting scene, according to The Times Homicide Report database.
