Police identify man shot to death in East Hollywood
Police on Monday identified a man who was shot to death in East Hollywood as 33-year-old Lavell L. Smith.
The shooting was reported shortly before 5:30 a.m. Sunday in the 1100 block of North Vermont Avenue, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Officers found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. Los Angeles Fire Department medics took Smith to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
The LAPD said the shooting was under investigation and that it may be gang-related.
Since January 2007, at least 31 homicides have been reported within a mile of where Smith was slain, according to The Times Homicide Report database. Twenty-two of the victims died from gunshot wounds.
