Man dies after being swept into the ocean in San Pedro
A man died Saturday morning after he and two others were swept into the ocean by a rogue wave in San Pedro, authorities said.
Dispatchers received a call about 6:35 a.m. that three people had been knocked into the ocean while standing on the Cabrillo Beach breakwater, Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey said.
One of the three, a 49-year-old man, made his way out of the water with little assistance. Rescue boats were sent out to find two others, Humphrey said.
A 14-year-old boy was pulled from the water and reported to be in fair condition. A third individual, described only as a 35-year-old man, was also pulled from the water but was not breathing, Humphrey said.
Rescuers performed CPR and transported him to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center in San Pedro.
The man was pronounced dead at 7:28 a.m., said Lt. Larry Dietz of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
