Times reporter Catherine Saillant will join L.A. Now Live at 9 a.m. to give the latest on the Los Angeles election results.

Results trickled in as voters decided on a mayor, city controller and city attorney. Seats were also up for grabs on the City Council and L.A. Unified and L.A. Community College district boards.

With 14% of precincts reporting election results Tuesday night, City Councilman Eric Garcetti took the lead in the mayor’s race from Controller Wendy Greuel, 51% to 49%. Early returns from absentee ballots had showed Greuel leading by two percentage points.

At $33 million, the mayoral campaign was the most expensive in the city’s history, beginning with the opening round of voting in March. The race pitted City Councilman Eric Garcetti against Controller Wendy Greuel.

L.A. MAYOR’S RACE: It’s Eric Garcetti by wide margin

After pushing past six other candidates in the primary, the two finalists, particularly Greuel, leaned on large, unregulated campaigns operated by outside groups. Spending by city employee unions on behalf of Greuel became a central issue in the campaign.

RESULTS: Los Angeles general election results

Los Angeles City Atty. Carmen Trutanich announced his concession in his bid for reelection about 11:30 p.m. He was defeated by former Assemblyman Mike Feuer. Last year, Trutanich lost his bid to become L.A. County district attorney.
