A Fountain Valley man who worked as a maintenance painter for the Huntington Beach City School District was sentenced Wednesday after pleading guilty to owning and distributing child pornography.
Orange County Superior Court Judge Robert Fitzgerald sentenced Roger Scott Hewson, 51, to one year in jail and five years of probation, prosecutors said.
He must also register as a sex offender for life, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.
Hewson was discovered to have hundreds of digital photos of child pornography and was distributing the images to others through an online file sharing program, the Huntington Beach Independent reported.
None of the images was of children from the schools within the Huntington Beach district, according to the district attorney’s office.
With assistance from the nation’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Huntington Beach police arrested Hewson on Nov. 7 while he was working at Dwyer Middle School.
