A Temple City High School softball coach is facing charges for allegedly having a sexual relationship with a teenager he coached, officials said Tuesday.
Ryan Frontino, 31, of El Monte pleaded not guilty last Wednesday to nine felony charges of having sex with the girl, according to a Los Angeles County Superior Court criminal complaint.
Frontino is a part-time junior varsity softball coach at Temple City High, where he met and helped train the teen, according to the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department.
Sheriff’s detectives began investigating Frontino on May 19 after the girl’s mother reportedly notified them that she had found sexually-explicit text messages from him on her daughter’s cellphone.
They arrested Frontino soon after, and he admitted to having a sexual relationship with her, sheriff’s officials said. Officials did not release the girl’s age.
A preliminary hearing for Frontino is scheduled for Monday in L.A. County Superior Court in Alhambra.
