Two people were being sought Friday in a violent confrontation on the 91 Freeway that started with gunfire and ended in a car crash, authorities said.

The violence began with a shooting about 8:45 p.m. Thursday on the westbound lanes near Bellflower Boulevard in Bellflower. The occupants of a 2003 Honda Accord fired on a 2013 Chrysler sedan, hitting the driver several times and wounding the passenger.

The two cars then collided, sending the Honda careening into the center divider and the Chrysler onto the right shoulder where it came to a rest. The two in the Honda were then picked up by a silver SUV, witnesses told officers.

The driver of the Chrysler is listed in critical condition, said California Highway Patrol Sgt. Denise Joslin. The passenger suffered a minor injury.

The CHP declared a SigAlert on the westbound freeway shortly before 9 p.m. as officers shut down lanes while investigators gathered evidence.

The Honda was taken as evidence.

“That’s good for us, it certainly aids in our investigation,†Joslin said. “We have a good lead there.â€
