A portion of the 60 Freeway near Rowland Heights and the city of Industry will be closed for pavement repairs this weekend, the last in a series of 55-hour lane closures dubbed the “Summer Slam†by transportation officials.

Beginning at 10 p.m. Friday, two eastbound lanes will close between Fullerton Road and Nogales Street. The Hacienda Boulevard, Azusa Avenue, Fullerton Road and south Nogales Street on-ramps will be closed, as will the Fullerton Road and Nogales Street off-ramps.

The lanes are scheduled to reopen at 5 a.m. Monday. Although not full closures, heavy traffic and delays are expected and Caltrans is encouraging motorists to use alternate routes.

Authorities warned that closure of all eastbound lanes may occur in the early morning hours to allow for K-rail installation.

The first of four weekend closures began on July 12 and have continued every other weekend. The events are part of a $121.5 million project designed to improve the heavily traveled roadway in both directions between the 605 and 57 freeways.

Other improvements will include installation of traffic loops and striping, said Caltrans. Work is scheduled to be completed in late 2014.
