A felony burglary suspect who barricaded himself in a downtown Los Angeles apartment surrendered Tuesday afternoon, police said.
The man holed himself up in a fifth-floor apartment in a building off 7th and Flower streets after police tried to arrest him on a felony warrant about 5:40 a.m., said Officer Liliana Preciado of the Los Angeles Police Department.
When the man refused to come out of the apartment, officers called for a SWAT negotiator, who spoke with the man over the phone, police said. A woman was also inside the apartment during the standoff but was not considered a hostage.
The man peacefully surrendered about 1:45 p.m. Police reopened the area to foot and vehicle traffic and took in the woman for questioning.
No injuries were reported. Seventh Street between Hope and Flower streets was shut down for about seven hours Tuesday because of the standoff.
