Confusion at Dominguez High as some teachers reportedly go AWOL
A group of teachers at Dominguez High School in Compton reportedly failed to show up for work Tuesday, apparently leaving the school in disarray.
Calls to the school were referred to district headquarters, although a school employee said the principal had “his hands full right now†and could not talk to the media.
“The administration is trying to figure out what’s behind this right now,†said Ron T. Suazo from the district’s office of communications.
“Apparently, some teachers decided not to show up today or something like that, but I can’t confirm anything. We’ll put out a statement as soon as we figure things out.â€
There also was confusion over whether students were being sent home or kept on campus. Some parents were picking up their students, Suazo said.
A community member said he drove by the school and noticed students running around the campus. He said students told him that some or even all the teachers were not on campus.
Emails to the head of the teachers union were not immediately returned, and the union’s phone line was persistently busy.
