Cal State Long Beach briefly locked down after false report of armed man

Cal State Long Beach was briefly locked down after someone falsely reported seeing an armed man in the engineering technology department.
Authorities notified the campus community with telephone alerts, Twitter messages and on the university’s website.
But within half an hour, Long Beach police said the situation was all clear and that the report of an armed suspect on campus appeared to be false.
The alert that was sent to students and others ordered people to evacuate or seek shelter on campus.
“If necessary, lock and blockade doors, close blinds, silence cellphones and remain calm. Police are engaging the threat,” the alert stated. “Obey police instructions.”
The campus was the site of an emergency drill Tuesday morning, but campus officials said this is not part of that.
