Boys, 3 and 5, die after ATV crash into Northern California pond
Two Northern California boys, 3 and 5, were killed Sunday afternoon after their ATV crashed into a pond and became submerged, authorities said.
The boys, who were friends, were riding their ATV about 4:30 p.m. on private property in the 5100 block of Wise Road in Lincoln, Calif., while their fathers were working on the land, said Officer David Martinez of the California Highway Patrol.
One of the fathers noticed the boys were missing and then found a helmet floating in the pond, he said.
The ATV was submerged and their sons were underwater.
The father of the 3-year-old plunged into the water, where he found his son and began performing CPR.
Meanwhile, the second father also jumped into the pond, found his 5-year-old underwater and began CPR until paramedics arrived.
The boys were flown to UC Davis Medical Center, where they died.
The deadly crash was deemed an accident, but police were looking into whether the fathers were properly caring for their children, Martinez said.
