A Union Pacific train struck and killed a person on tracks between downtown Pomona and East Ontario early Tuesday, causing temporary delays on Metrolink’s Riverside line.
Shortly after 3 a.m., Metrolink was notified by Union Pacific that one of its freight trains had fatally struck someone about a mile east from the Downtown Pomona station, said Scott Johnson, Metrolink spokesperson.
No information on the victim was immediately available, authorities said.
Metrolink tweeted that its Line 401 was canceled. Passengers traveling from Riverside to Union Station were instructed to use Line 701 instead. Passengers departing from the Downtown Pomona station could board the Foothill Silver Streak to Union Station, Metrolink said.
Shortly after 6 a.m., Metrolink reported that the tracks were opened between the Downtown Pomona station and East Ontario, and that train service will resume.
