2 men killed, 1 wounded in shooting at Pomona triplex
Two men were killed and a third wounded in a shooting late Saturday night at a Pomona triplex.
The shooting occurred just after 10:50 p.m. at the property in the 700 block of East Columbia Avenue, a Los Angeles County fire dispatcher said.
A woman who answered the phone at the Pomona Police Department on Sunday said the department would not comment until Monday morning.
Greg Estel, who has owned the triplex for 18 years, spent Sunday afternoon cleaning up blood after detectives cleared the scene.
Estel, 52, said he heard about the shootings Saturday night when two law students living in another unit called him to say that a bullet had flown through the window and landed in a box of cereal.
“It missed them by 6 inches,†Estel said. “Then they look out the front door and saw a guy dead on the porch.â€
Estel said the victims were visiting a tenant in the triplex. He did not know what prompted the shooting.
“I think the only guy that really knows is the guy in the hospital,†Estel said.
The county dispatcher confirmed that paramedics also responded to a hit-and-run that occurred six minutes later less than two miles from the site of the shootings.
Few details were available about the second incident, which was reported about 10:56 p.m. near Mission Boulevard and Park Avenue. At least one victim was taken to an area hospital.
