Five people were shot and two others injured when gunfire erupted at a house party attended by about 100 people in North Hollywood early Sunday, Los Angeles police said.
Officers responded to a call about a loud party about 1 a.m. in the 12700 block of West Tiara Street, near the intersection of Coldwater Canyon Avenue and Oxnard Street, police said.
As officers arrived, people were running from the residence toward them as multiple gunshots were fired, Lt. Bob Toledo told KTLA-TV Channel 5.
Two people were detained at the scene, Toledo said.
The incident may have been gang-related but the investigation is continuing, police said.
None of the victims was in critical condition, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported. Five suffered gunshot wounds; two had other injuries incurred when people rushed out of the home.
Los Angeles police Det. Meghan Aguilar said bullet casings recovered at the scene were of several calibers, indicating there was probably more than one shooter.
