Mountain View police found Nasim Aghdam sleeping in car hours before YouTube shooting

The woman who authorities say opened fire at YouTube’s San Bruno, Calif., headquarters, wounding three people before killing herself, had recently been reported missing by her family.

Mountain View police said they spotted the woman, who goes by Nasim Aghdam, asleep in a car in a city parking lot early Tuesday morning, hours before the shooting, and notified her family.

“Our officers made contact with the woman after the license plate of her vehicle matched that of a missing person out of Southern California,†a spokesperson said in an email. “The woman confirmed her identity to us and answered subsequent questions.â€

Woman who opened fire at YouTube identified as Nasim Aghdam, source says

A woman who opened fire at YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif., was identified by a law enforcement source as Nasim Aghdam.

The investigation, a second law enforcement source said, is looking into a website in which someone with a similar name complains about YouTube stifling traffic and suppressing videos. The source stressed that the investigation is in its preliminary stages.

San Bruno, Calif., Police Chief Ed Barberini said the weapon used in the shooting at the YouTube headquarters Tuesday was a handgun, but said police are still searching for a motive.

The chief would not comment on questions about whether the shooting was a domestic violence incident.

A law enforcement source said the shooting was personal in nature and not tied to terrorism.

A woman opened fire, injuring three people before taking her own life. Officials did not name her or say whether she worked for the company.

Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital has received 3 patients from YouTube shooting, spokesman says

Brent Andrew, a spokesman for Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, told reporters Tuesday afternoon that the hospital had received three patients following a shooting at the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif.

The patients included: a 32-year-old woman in serious condition, a 27-year-old woman in fair condition and a 36-year-old man in critical condition.

“We do not expect additional patients from this incident,†Andrew said.

Dr. Andre Campbell, a trauma surgeon at the hospital, said the patients were awake and aware of what happened.

“This is a terrible day in the United States, when once again we have a multiple-casualty situation that has confronted us,†Campbell said.

He did not provide details about the victims’ injuries, but said they had not undergone surgery as of Tuesday afternoon.

The San Bruno Police Department said in a statement Tuesday that four people were taken to local hospitals, three of whom had gunshot wounds.

Police received numerous 911 calls at 12:46 p.m. reporting gunfire at the YouTube campus at 901 Cherry Ave. and arrived on scene two minutes later.

Officers encountered one victim with an apparent gunshot wound to a lower extremity at the front of the building. At 12:53 p.m., officers searching the building found a deceased woman with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Police Department.

Two additional victims were located at a next-door business, police said.

Snapchat users outside of YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif., posted video of people evacuating from the building, as well as a police presence in a parking lot across the street.

The videos were featured on Snapchat’s live map.

Uber driver helps people fleeing YouTube shooting

Lucacio Simoes, 40, an Uber driver from San Bruno, learned of the shooting when a friend texted him about it while he was having lunch at the nearby Tanforan shopping center. Simoes said he drove his Ford Explorer toward YouTube headquarters to see if he could help.

“There were people running down the street,†he said.

Simoes said he turned off the Uber app and started to pick people up who looked like they were fleeing.

“I just opened the door and asked if they needed help. I was getting people away from YouTube,†Simoes said. “At one point I had seven people in the car. I picked up one man from Sneath Lane and when he got in the car he just started crying. He was in shock.â€

Simoes said he dropped people off at the Tanforan Mall and on El Camino and had performed at least six such rides Tuesday afternoon.

Police describe chaotic scene when they arrived at YouTube headquarters amid active shooting

Numerous 911 calls sent police to the YouTube headquarters.

San Bruno police arrived at 12:48 p.m. and immediately began searching. Officers encountered “numerous employees fleeing from the building.â€

They came across one victim with an apparent gunshot wound toward the front of the business.

Officers found a second person, a woman, with a gunshot wound that may have been self-inflicted. Officers found two victims at an adjacent business.

Police are going through the campus doing a “methodical, slow search just to make sure we cover all the bases,†officials said.

Witness describes helping woman who was shot in the leg

An employee at a fast-food restaurant near the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno told a reporter at Fox News that he rendered first aid to a woman who came into the restaurant bleeding from a gunshot wound to the leg.

“I was trying to find tools to help her and I found a bungee cord and I tied that around her leg to stop the blood flow,†the man said. “She was scared.â€

The injured woman was calm but scared, according to the man, an employee at a Carl’s Jr. who was not identified.

People hurt in YouTube headquarters shooting taken to hospitals

People injured in the YouTube headquarters shooting are being taken to hospitals.

It’s unclear how many were hurt in the shooting or the severity of their injuries.

A law enforcement source said at least two people were shot, perhaps more. The source said at least 10 people were taken to hospitals.

Lisa Kim, spokeswoman for Stanford Medical Center, said about four to five patients from the YouTube shooting in San Bruno, Calif., are expected to be admitted at the medical center. “We do not know their conditions,†she said.

An active shooting at Google’s YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, Calif., sparked panic and a massive police response Tuesday.

Several YouTube employees sent tweets Tuesday afternoon, saying employees were racing out of the company’s Cherry Avenue offices shortly after 1 p.m.

Google officials said they were coordinating with authorities and will provide official information when it becomes available.

‘Is this really happening?’ Terrified YouTube workers flee to restaurant

About two dozen customers barricaded themselves inside of Nueve restaurant when authorities told them to “stay far away from YouTube,†around 1 p.m., bartender Carlos Gutierrez said.

“Is this really happening?†Gutierrez said he wondered about the reports of an active shooter at the company headquarters in San Bruno. “Or is it a false alarm?â€

On the TV, a woman with blood on her was later interviewed, he said, confirming to him that this was the real thing.

Police, California Highway Patrol officers and SWAT personnel holding sniper rifles moved past the windows of the restaurant, he said.

Chaos, blood and a heavy police response amid YouTube shooting

Michelle Tam, a hostess of Hashes & Brews, a restaurant about a block away from the YouTube headquarters in San Bruno, said around 12:45 p.m. that the streets in the immediate area were filled with police cars and fire trucks.

“We see lots of cops and firefighters,†Tam said. “We can’t see any people. It’s just a lot of trucks along the street at the moment.â€

She said three YouTube employees came in and were visibly shaken.

“They came in from a back door,†she said. “They sat down at a table. They were in a daze. One guy, there was a little blood on his head.â€

Tam said other one of her colleagues gave them a first aid kit and she said one of the YouTube employees said there was a partial fragment of a bullet in her shoe.
