Reese Witherspoon sells her ranch retreat in Ojai

Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon has sold her Libbey Ranch in Ojai, The Times has confirmed. The sales price of the second home was $4,983,500, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

Designed by architect Wallace Neff, who was known for developing a “Californiaâ€-style of home, Witherspoon’s ranch was originally built in 1923 as stables for glassware titan Edward Libbey. Details include turrets, original stonework and arched windows and alcoves.

The two-story main house features beamed ceilings, an over-sized fireplace in the two-story living room, a library loft with a fireplace, four bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms.

Three guest cottages, a carriage house, a swimming pool, a barn, stables, pasture land and mature oaks complete the 7 acres of grounds. There are nine bedrooms, five full bathrooms and two half-baths.

Witherspoon, 37, appeared in “Legally Blonde†(2001), “Sweet Home Alabama†(2002) and “Walk the Line†(2005), for which she won her lead actress Oscar. More recently she was in “Mud†and “Water for Elephants.†She will star in the upcoming movies “Devil’s Knot†and “Wild,†based on the memoir by Cheryl Strayed.

Witherspoon bought the ranch in 2008 for $5.8 million. She owns a three-parcel spread in the Brentwood area of Los Angeles and a house near Nashville, reported the Real Estalker, which broke the news of the Ojai sale.

Nancy Kogevinas of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and Billy Rose of the Agency were the listing agents, the MLS shows, and Jennifer Berger of Sotheby’s International Realty represented the buyer.
