The jungle at their fingertips

Ivan and Bobbie Finkle of Los Angeles were rafting down Costa Rica’s Peñas Blancas River in March when their guide veered toward land and ran ashore into a forest.
“Seconds later he emerged holding the smallest frog I’ve ever seen,” says Ivan, who took this photo. “We were told it was a poison dart frog” — harmless to handlers with no cuts on their hands. The guide returned the frog and, Ivan says, “thoroughly washed his hands.”
