Dog-friendly brewpubs: Five spots to enjoy craft beer with your pooch
The dog days of summer may be officially waning, but there’s still plenty of time to enjoy L.A.’s long slide into autumn with a craft beer and your furry-friend by your side. Here are five brewery tasting rooms around town that serve up pints of the good stuff and welcome your canine companions too!
The Pub at Golden Road Brewing
The tavern on the Atwater Village brewery’s sprawling campus added a large Astroturf “lawn†that is ironically not dog-friendly, but the dedicated “Doggy Deck†is still a great place to bring your pup while you relax with a pint or a pitcher. Water bowls and doggie biscuits made from the grain used to brew the beer are available to keep tails wagging.
The Pub at Golden Road, 5410 W. San Fernando Road, Los Angeles.
Angel City Brewery
Dogs are welcome in the Arts District hangout, and what could be the most dog-frendly brewery in Los Angeles has even been offering a monthly “Barks, Bubbles and Brews†event that turns the brewery’s parking lot into a dog-washing party with Much Love Animal Rescue where you can grab a pint -- or an extensive taster flight -- while Fido gets washed and groomed. The next event is scheduled for Sept. 15 beginning at noon.
Angel City Brewery, 16 S. Alameda St., Los Angeles.
Monkish Brewery
The Torrance brewery has been turning out Belgian-inspired brews, many featuring creative botanical ingredients, for just over a year, and it recently completed an expansion of its tasting room that gives its four-legged patrons some more space to get comfortable. Acclaimed Smog City Brewery is just a few blocks down the street, and that makes for an enticing destination when it’s time to walk the dog.
Monkish Brewing Co., 20311 S. Western Ave., Torrance.
Beachwood Brewing & BBQ
Dogs are welcome on the spacious, promenade-facing patio at the lauded Long Beach brewpub, and the surrounding neighborhood is a great dog-friendly destination. Tire out the pooch by walking around Long Beach, then escape the sun for a spell while enjoying some superlative local brews (and creative ‘cue) on Beachwood’s patio.
Beachwood Brewing & BBQ, 210 E. 3rd St., Long Beach.
Beer Belly
While not a brewery, the Koreatown craft beer destination deserves a mention as it has just completed its second outdoor seating area, where you’ll often find dogs lazing around while their owners enjoy the local beers and chef Wes Lieberher’s creative, if decadent, comfort food. You may even spot Brandon and Gaga -- the owners’ perky pets -- enjoying the scene.
Beer Belly, 532 S. Western Ave., Los Angeles.
