The hectic pace of the Oscar night coverage here at All The Rage central meant we never got a chance to check out this year’s winning Red Carpet Green Dress looks, which were revealed to the world Sunday afternoon as Olga Kurylenko and Kellan Lutz hit the Academy Awards red carpet outside the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

The details of the outfits’ eco-friendiness, provided by the challenge’s organizers, are fascinating. Among them:

Kurylenko’s gown is 100% GOTS certified organic peace silk and 100% GOTS certified organic silk, hand-dyed with Sappanwood (considered sustainable because of its fast growth rate), which produces a reddish-colored dye, then over-dyed with madder root to achieve the resulting shade of red. Her shoes are a collaboration between PETA and U.K. label Beyond Skin and described as “vegan, faux suede, metallic-trimmed shoes [that] are made from Dinamica, a durable material made in Italy from 100% recycled bottle tops.â€

Lutz’s tuxedo jacket is apparently 45% certified silk and 55% rPET (recycled polyethylene terephhalate – drink bottles, packaging and the like), his tux trousers are hemp dyed with logwood and his waistcoat is made from hemp and 100-year-old Spitalfields silk that was dyed with marigold flowers.

The winning gown design was submitted by Alice Elia, a fashion student at ESMOD in Paris, and the winning tuxedo design was submitted by Jomnarn Dul from New Zealand menswear brand H. Brothers.

At a West Hollywood event last week to mark the group’s fifth year of sending sustainable style down the Oscars red carpet, we had a chance to buttonhole founder Suzy Amis Cameron just long enough to ask if she had a favorite. “Well, I haven’t seen the ones from this year yet,†she told us. “But the gown that Naomie Harris wore last year was absolutely exquisite.â€
