MIAMI — Un puente peatonal recién instalado colapsó el jueves en la Universidad Internacional de Florida en el área de Miami. Al menos cinco autos quedaron aplastados y se vio cuando varias personas eran llevadas del lugar en ambulancias.

La Patrulla de Caminos de Florida reporta “varias víctimas” por el colapso del puente en universidad en Miami pero se desconoce el número de heridos o si hay víctimas fatales.

El gobernador Rick Scott tuiteó que había hablado con el jefe de policía de Miami-Dade, Juan Pérez, sobre la caída del puente.

“Estaré permanentemente en contacto con la policía durante toda la jornada”, dijo Scott.

La calzada de 950 toneladas había sido instalada el sábado. El tramo principal fue armado a un costado del camino mientras se construían torres de apoyo en los extremos.

Camiones de bomberos, patrullas y otros vehículos de emergencia se encontraban en el lugar.

El puente construido a un costo de 14,2 millones de dólares cruzaba una carretera transitada de siete carriles que separa el campus universitario de la ciudad de Sweetwater.
