IBM to invest $5 mn to expand data center in Colombia

U.S.based technology giant IBM will invest $5 million to expand its data center in the Colombian capital, the company said in a statement.

“With this new option we can help business to maintain constant availability, supporting them in events such as natural disasters, power outages or other types of incidents that may interfere with their services,” IBM Colombia executive Juan Carlos Hincapie said.

IBM’s data center in Colombia began operations in 2014 with an initial investment of $17 million.

The World Economic Forum’s Global Information Technology Report 2015 named Colombia as one of Latin America’s four leading economies in the use of telecommunications, prompting IBM to expand its data center.

“This new offer meets the current demand of the market, which requires ever more availability of data in real time and in multiple channels,” Hincapie said.
