Lima, Mar 9 (EFE). — No one was injured in a fire that broke out on an oil platform in the Pacific Ocean and no fuel was spilled, rig operator Savia Peru said.
The fire occurred on March 1 and was “controlled immediately,” the company said in a statement.
The blaze did not cause any damage, Savia Peru said, adding that it implemented an emergency plan to deal with the incident.
Platform KK is in the Peña Negra sector of Lot Z2B off the coast of the northern region of Piura, located on the border between Peru and Ecuador, about 1,200 kilometers (some 745 miles) north of Lima.
The incident was reported to government regulators “within the shortest time possible” and the cause of the blaze is under investigation, Savia Peru said.
Offshore block Z2B covers 199,865 hectares (493,493 acres) and is home to 1,400 wells in seven fields Peña Negra, San Pedro, Lobitos, Litoral, Providencia, Los Organos and Chira.
