“Quality Balls: The David Steinberg Story” profiles the stand-up comic, sitcom director and host of “Inside Comedy,” which returns with guests Jimmy Fallon and Zach Galifianakis. 9:30 and 11 p.m. Showtime
Talk about your helicopter parenting! An African American couple documents their son’s progress from kindergarten through high school in “American Promise” on “POV.” 10 p.m. KOCE

He’s no Prince, but “The O.C.’s” Adam Brody guest-stars as one of Jess’s (Zooey Deschanel) former beaus on another new “New Girl.” 9 p.m. Fox
“The Amish Shunned” share their stories of life outside the insular religious sect in this new episode of “American Experience.” 9 p.m. KOCE

Here endeth “The Spoils of Babylon.” The mocu-miniseries starring Tobey Maguire, Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell concludes. 10 p.m. IFC

FRIDAY

Hoop dreams deferred: The 2012 doc “Lenny Cooke” profiles a former high-school basketball phenom who never quite made it to the NBA. 8:30 p.m. Showtime
Alice Walker, a Pulitzer Prize winner for her novel “The Color Purple,” is celebrated on “American Masters.” 9 p.m. KOCE

Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy followed up 1995’s “Before Sunrise” and 2004’s “Before Sunset” with 2013’s “Before Midnight.” If that pattern holds, watch for “Before Noon” in 2022. 9 p.m. Starz

Tangled Web: Erin Krakow gets “catfished” — Google it — in the made-for-cable fable “Chance at Romance” and Yvonne Zima is “The Girl He Met Online” in this new thriller. 7 and 10 p.m. Hallmark; 8 p.m. Lifetime
