ABC Family has given a series commitment order to a comedy that is executive-produced by multiplatinum rapper Nicki Minaj.

The single-camera comedy is based on Minaj and her family’s immigration from Trinidad in the early ‘90s--with focus on her childhood in Queens and the path that let to her eventual rise in the music scene. Minaj, who is behind such hits as “Starships†and “Anaconda,†will also appear in the series--but in what capacity is unclear.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,†Minaj said in a statement. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.â€

“Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,†said Karey Burke, executive vice president of programming and development at ABC Family. “We’re beyond thrilled to bring her one-of-a-kind story to our channel. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.â€
