Lee Daniels’ ‘Empire,’ starring Terrence Howard, headed for Fox

Hip-hop is coming to Fox.

The network has picked up “Empire,� an urban-flavored drama from writer-director Lee Daniels (“Precious,� “Lee Daniels’ The Butler�) for its upcoming schedule.

The Imagine Television/20th Century Fox Television series is described as a unique family drama set in the world of a hip-hop empire that will feature original and current music, and will star Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson.

Howard and Henson were featured in the Oscar-winning film “Hustle and Flow.�

Daniels and Danny Strong, the screenwriter of “Lee Daniels’ The Butler,� wrote the pilot and will be executive prducers. Other executive producers include Brian Grazer (“24�) and Francie Calfo (“Those Who Kill�).
