Host Joel McHale will keep ‘The Soup’ warm through 2016

Joel McHale is going to be serving up “The Soup” for quite a while.

The comedian and star of “Community” has signed an extended agreement with E! that will keep him on the 10-year-old series, which comedically skewers reality and talk shows.

The deal also gives McHale’s production company, Free Period Productions, an extension on a development deal in which he will give E! first look rights to ideas for nonscripted series.

“I’m thrilled to be working a E! for two more years hosting ‘The Soup,’ ” McHale said in a statement. “Although I narrowly beat Mitt Romney out for the job in a number of states, I’m confident that I can keep up the same quality of humorous observation of shows like ‘Naked Dating’ and ‘Bad Girls Club Season 12 Reunion Part 2’ that the American people age 18-49 have come to expect and deserve.

“Thank you E!, Comcast and the entire Dallas Maverick organization.”

McHale’s deal with E! gives the pop culture-oriented network some much-needed good news after a couple of rough months which saw the departure of its late-night host Chelsea Handler and the death of “Fashion Police” star Joan Rivers.
