HBO takes ‘brief hiatus’ on ‘Westworld’ production

Television network HBO has shut down production on “Westworld.†Based on the 1973 film of the same name, the highly anticipated drama is taking a break to allow time for the series script to be finalized.

“As we head into the final phase of production on ‘Westworld,’ we’ve made the decision to take a brief hiatus in order to get ahead of the writing,†the network said in a statement.

Husband-wife duo Jonathan Nolan (“Person of Interestâ€) and Lisa Joy (“Burn Noticeâ€) are the writers, sharing executive producer duties with J.J. Abrams.

Though the network has not confirmed a date for production to resume, Variety reported it will start back up in March. Confirmation was also not given on whether the show will still premiere in 2016.

The cast of the reboot of the sci-fi classic includes Ed Harris, Anthony Hopkins and Thandie Newton.
