Do you long for the good old days of MTV, that halcyon era when reruns of “The Real World†or “Beavis & Butthead†were just a remote-click away and we all grumbled about how the network never played music videos anymore?

Well, here’s the good news: MTV announced Thursday it is rebranding VH1 Classic as MTV Classic, which will feature throwback programming from the ’90s and early ’00s mined from the company vaults.

The new channel will launch on MTV’s 35th anniversary, Aug 1, kicking off with a rebroadcast of the network’s first hour in 1981. (Time to brush up on the lyrics to “Video Killed the Radio Star.â€) It will be followed by a “TRL†retrospective and a marathon of “MTV Unplugged.â€

The network will feature a prime-time programming block of favorite titles including “Daria,†“Aeon Flux,†Cribs,†“Jackass,†“Beavis and Butt-head†and “Punk’d,†along with some shows from the vault that probably stretch the definition of “classic.†Weekends will be devoted to binge-friendly marathons of reality staples such as “The Real World,†“Laguna Beach†and “Road Rules.â€

And, yes, there will sometimes be music! Friday nights will be devoted to repeats of the performance shows “MTV Unplugged†and “Storytellers.†Concerts and music videos will also be sprinkled throughout the lineup, but let’s be honest: We’re all here for Puck.
