‘Inside Amy Schumer’ slated for Season 5 but won’t be on in ‘foreseeable future,’ Schumer confirms
“Inside Amy Schumer†will return for a fifth season, but after that, its future is undecided, the show’s star, Amy Schumer, confirmed in a series of tweets Thursday.
“ ‘Inside Amy Schumer’ is not cancelled. @ComedyCentral has provided us with a wonderful home and we couldn’t be happier there. I am just touring,†the comedian wrote. “Doing Standup and focusing on writing more for the next year at least. We are slated for a season 5 but not in the foreseeable future.â€
The “Trainwreck†star, who is making the rounds to promote her new memoir, “The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo,†added that she was grateful to the network for giving her “time to work on other projects.â€
A rep for the show did not immediately respond to The Times’ request for comment.
In May, Viacom exec Doug Herzog hinted to Variety that the Emmy-winning comedy wouldn’t continue past Season 5.
“I think Amy’s immediately viable movie career is something that she’s going to be pretty focused on going forward. She’s got a lot on her plate right now,†Herzog said, adding that later seasons are “to be determined.â€

The show’s iffy future was called into question this week when the actress found herself embroiled in a hubbub surrounding comic Kurt Metzger’s controversial Facebook remarks regarding victims not reporting sexual assault (Warning: This link contains profanity). A tweet she wrote distancing herself from Metzger, who has written for and acted in her sketch comedy, then was interpreted that “Inside Amy Schumer†was kaput.
“I am so saddened and disappointed in Kurt Metzger. He is my friend and a great writer and I couldn’t be more against his recent actions,†she tweeted Wednesday, noting, “Kurt does not work for me. He is not a writer on my show. Please stop asking me about it. His words are not mine.â€
