Watch: Coldplay goes on parade in video for ‘A Sky Full of Stars’

Coldplay has done only a handful of shows in support of its new album, but one of them went down in the middle of a busy street in Sydney, Australia.

That’s the premise, anyway, of the band’s new video for “A Sky Full of Stars,” the second single from “Ghost Stories,” which came out last month to the biggest first-week sales of the year.

Posted Thursday on YouTube, the clip follows frontman Chris Martin as he strolls around the Australian city singing and strumming a guitar; eventually, he meets the group’s other members in a crowded square, where exploding confetti cannons soon provide a bit of Coldplay’s trademark uplift.

The video for “A Sky Full of Stars” was shot a mere two days ago, according to a statement, prior to the band’s concert at Sydney’s Enmore Theatre, part of a brief tour that also included a performance at UCLA’s Royce Hall.

Kylie Minogue put in a surprise appearance at the end of the Sydney show, the Australian reported, singing her hit “Can’t Get You Out of My Head” as well as “Where the Wild Roses Grow,” a duet she originally sang with Nick Cave.
