For all the fans who caught Jack White’s searing set on the Main Stage at Coachella, savor it: that might be the last time you see him for a while.

White has announced that he will be taking an extended break from touring after a small run of upcoming shows, which include Coachella’s weekend 2 and a Honolulu date. After that will come a five-date mini-tour that will be entirely acoustic, with dates and locations unannounced until the day of the show. The shows will reportedly take place in the last five U.S. states where White has never performed, at the cost of just $3 a ticket.

After that run, according to a release from White’s representatives, “he will be taking a break from performing live for a long period of time.â€

That’s a shame, because White’s Coachella set was a scorcher. “A willfully jarring collision of tones and textures, White’s show — bathed in the blue light he’s used since going solo in 2012 — felt like a forceful argument that hand-played roots music can still speak to (and about) our times,†wrote The Times’ Mikael Wood.

“Throughout the show, White’s guitar playing was a thing of wonder, but not because of the power he was exerting over his instrument; indeed, he seemed barely in control of the thing, which was spraying trebly, high-pitched feedback all over the place. The idea was guitar heroism less as a feat of ability than as an act of willingness — storm-chasing, essentially,†Wood continued.

Maybe for White’s most devoted fans, it’s worth tracking down a Weekend 2 ticket after all?
