Here’s Aretha Franklin blowing people’s minds at the Kennedy Center Honors
Who exactly are you supposed to look at here?
Wearing a floor-length fur coat as she belts out “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,†Aretha Franklin undeniably draws the eye in the above video clip from the annual Kennedy Center Honors, which aired Tuesday night on CBS after taking place earlier this month in Washington.
But then there’s the song’s co-writer (and one of this year’s honorees), Carole King, who can barely contain her excitement at seeing Franklin sit down behind a piano to perform the tune.

And there’s President Obama, wiping away what appears to be a tear as Franklin sings about having to face another day.
And there are the folks sitting in the audience who can’t resist craning their necks toward the balcony to get a look at King and the president freaking out (and also George Lucas seeming a bit unsure of who Franklin is).
It’s a lot to take in. But it’s worth it.
