Miley Cyrus joins Snoop Lion for ‘Ashtrays and Heartbreaks’ video
Snoop Lion and new BFF Miley Cyrus offer a salute -- and a toke? -- to departed friends in the video for their recent collaboration “Ashtrays and Heartbreaks†from “Reincarnation,†the new reggae album from Snoop Lion, a.k.a. Snoop Dogg.
The loping track is a melancholy meditation on loved ones who have died. “Seems like everyday we’re putting more 6 feet underground,†Snoop sings, while suggesting blazing as the way to memorialize them: “Tonight there’s gonna be a whole lot of smoke in the air/blow it high for the ones who ain’t here.â€
Former child star Cyrus responds, “Now my buzz is gone/I gotta re-up on reality/Can’t let them see me weak, I need to pause on it/ Is there any possibility that everyone feels like me?â€
The video, which premieres today on Vevo, is a collage of images shot in the mean streets, showing homeless sleeping on sidewalks, barbed wire-topped chain link fences, shattering glass and brawling young men.
“So raise a glass to the memories and set ‘em free,†Snoop and Miley sing, “I’m gonna fill up all those ashtrays, fill up all those ashtrays.â€
