Did you enjoy the silence? It won’t last much longer.

Two and a half years after finishing their most recent tour, the members of Depeche Mode announced Tuesday that they’ll be hitting the road again next spring.

The first leg of the Global Spirit Tour, as the veteran synth-rock band is referring to the trek, is scheduled to begin May 5 in Stockholm and run through July 23 in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, with stops between in cities such as London, Athens, Zurich and Berlin.

Following the European shows, the tour will travel to North and South America, with dates to be announced in the future.

The Global Spirit Tour comes in connection with a new studio album, “Spirit,†the band is preparing for release next year.

Depeche Mode, which includes frontman Dave Gahan and keyboardists Martin Gore and Andrew Fletcher, put out its previous record in 2013. Titled “Delta Machine,†its relatively stripped-down sound was inspired in part by the blues, Gahan told The Times that year; it also had lyrics that seemed to reflect a run of health troubles Gahan experienced in 2009.

In a news conference Tuesday that was streamed on the band’s Facebook page, Gahan said the group had been working on the album this year in Santa Barbara (where Gore lives) and New York.

“It’s all coming together really well,†the singer said. “We’re really pleased with what we’re doing.â€
